Book Description
First published in 2003, the You Speak Korean (YSK) series was among the earliest Korean textbook series in North America created for beginning learners with no previous experience studying Korean. The newly revised second editions of Books 1 and 2 reflect contemporary learners’ needs and current approaches to language pedagogy, including proficiency-based learning, backward design, and task-supported instruction.
Designed for intermediate-level instruction, Books 3 and 4 offer a variety of practice exercises and communicative tasks that prepare students for more complex real-life situations, such as joining college clubs, finding roommates, job interviews, end-of-year gatherings, and renting housing. The curriculum also introduces broader social and cultural topics, including recycling, wellness, holidays, and regional festivals. As an Open Educational Resource (OER), the series supports both traditional classroom instruction and autonomous learning models, making it ideal for self-directed learners, study groups, and tutored instruction.
