CULTURE NOTE |
Hocance 호캉스 is a popular leisure trend in South Korea. The term blends “hotel” and “vacance” (French for vacation), reflecting a growing preference for hotel-based getaways. Numerous hocance vlogs and Instagram posts are posted every day. The trend took off during the pandemic when hotels offered promotions to attract guests seeking a break from quarantine life, and it has since flourished, especially among young Koreans willing to splurge for a satisfying experience. With hotels costing up to one million KRW ($720) per night quickly filling up, many guests even book rooms for half a day, known as “bancance” (반캉스), to enjoy amenities, relax, or party with friends.
