By the end of this lesson, you’ll be able to:

  • Interpretive Communication: Comprehend a short description of the room, especially the locations of items in the room
  • Interpersonal Communication: Ask and answer questions about the location of an item.
  • Presentational Communication: Describe your room with location words.
  • Intercultural Communication: Talk about similarities and differences between houses in Korea and my country; and behave properly when visiting a Korean home (e.g. taking off shoes)

Task 1. 원룸 찾기

You are looking for a furnished studio in the city that you will move into next summer. As you cannot fly out there, your friend living there took a look at the studio that you are interested in for you. Read her text message and answer the following questions.

OO 씨,

행복 *원룸 아파트가 좋아요. 아파트 옆에 대학교가 있어요.

방에 화장실이 있어요. 그런데 냉장고가 없어요.

방 안에 침대하고 옷장이 있어요.

그리고 책상하고 의자도 있어요. 그런데 책장은 없어요.

책상은 침대 옆에 있어요. 그리고 침대 뒤에 창문이 있어요.

책상 위에 스탠드가 있어요. 그리고 시계도 있어요. 그런데 영어 책은 없어요.

*원룸: studio

Task 2. 니콜의 기숙사

Nicole has just moved into a new dorm room, and Wei is asking her about it. Listen and find the information to answer the questions in Korean.


 

1. List three things that are in Nicole’s room (other than the table).

2. Name one thing that is not in Nicole’s room.

3. Where is the wardrobe in her room?

4. What does Wei think about Nicole’s room?

Task 3. Role Play

Meet with your partner(s) on Zoom, and do the attached asynchronous task together. Take turns, playing the roles A and B. Video-record your best performances and upload the video with the picture here.

(A) You are moving to a new place. Decide where to put the following items in the room and draw a picture of your room: 책상, 의자, 책장, 옷장, 침대, 가족 사진, and _____________(provide your own).

Answer the mover’s questions about where to put the items so that they can place them appropriately.

(B) You are a mover and need to find out where to put the following items in the room. Ask a series of questions to place the items appropriately: 책상, 의자, 책장, 옷장, 침대, 가족 사진, and _____________(there is one more item not listed here). Draw a room with the items and upload the picture
